What is Pupil premium?
The Pupil Premium is funding allocated to schools for the specific purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low-income families. Funding is based on the children being registered for a free school meal, having a parent who works in the forces or who is/has been looked after by the local authority.
The PPG (pupil premium grant) for 2025-2026 is £1,515.00 per eligible pupil or £2,630 per LAC (looked after children). Service children have an allocation of £350.
The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to the main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying equalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring the funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. Whilst schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit we are required to publish online information about how we have used the funds.
In September 2023, we drafted a 3 year pupil premium strategy, which has been updated in September 2024 and 2025, with planned expenditure for 25/26.
In September 2026, we will review the impact and draft a new strategy for Sept 26 – Aug 29.
